Winter is the perfect time to dive into some fun and cozy crafting with your kids, and this adorable snowman made entirely out of pipe cleaners is a fantastic way to keep their hands busy and their creativity flowing. With just a few simple materials—pipe cleaners, pom poms, and glue—your kids can create their very own wintery friend.
This Winter craft is not only easy and fun but also a wonderful opportunity to spark children's imagination. Let’s get started on crafting a snowman that’s guaranteed not to melt!
Materials Needed
To get started, you're going to need to gather a few materials:
Pipe cleaners: White pipe cleaners for the body and red for decorations
Pom Poms: Black, orange, red, and white
Scissors: to adjust the size of the pipe cleaners
Step by Step Tutorial on How to make a Pipe Cleaner Snowman
Step 1: Create the Snowman’s Body
Take a white pipe cleaner and roll it tightly into a circular pinwheel shape to form the base (bottom) of the snowman.
Repeat this process to create two smaller circles for the middle and head sections of the snowman.
Our snowman required one pipe cleaner for the head, one and a half pipe cleaners for the middle, and two pipe cleaners for the body. But feel free to use as many pipe cleaners as you want.
Important tip: To keep the pipe cleaners from unraveling, you have to glue them together. We recommend using hot glue however, if you don't have any, you can use regular liquid Elmer's glue, but you have to hold the pieces together until they are fully dry.
Use glue to stack and attach the circles, creating a classic snowman shape. Allow time for the glue to dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Add a Hat and Scarf
Create a Santa hat using red pipe cleaners and a white pom pom. Bend and shape them into the desired style, then attach it to the snowman’s head with glue.
For a scarf, twist a colorful pipe cleaner around the snowman’s neck for a cozy touch.
Step 3: Add Buttons and Features
Use three black pom poms for the buttons of the snowman. Attach them to the snowman’s middle section with glue.
Use two more black pom poms for the eyes and attach them to the snowman's face right under that hat.
Use an orange pom pom to create a nose and glue it to the snowman’s face.
There you have it a cute and fun pipe cleaner snowman. Feel free to add you own personal touches like brown pipe cleaner arms or a pipe cleaner mouth.
Add Extra Holiday Flair to your Snowman
Encourage your kids to further customize their snowman to make them even more festive for the Christmas season.
Different Colors: Who says snowmen have to be white? Use colorful pipe cleaners to create unique snowmen with vibrant patterns and designs.
Mini Snowman Family: Make a whole snowman family with varying sizes of pinwheels for each member.
Seasonal Accessories: Add glitter, sequins, or tiny bows to make your snowman extra festive.
Themed Snowmen: Turn your snowman into a character by giving it sunglasses, a mustache, or even a superhero cape!
The opportunities to make each snowman interesting and unique are truly endless.
