Step by Step Tutorial on How to make a Paper Plate Reindeer
Step 1: Paint the Paper Plate
Start by coloring or painting the paper plate brown to create the reindeer’s face. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Create the Reindeer’s Antlers
Glue three popsicle sticks together in an almost "Y" shape to create an antler. Repeat this process a second time so you have a total of two antlers. Use the picture below for reference.
Glue the antlers to the top of the paper plate. We recommend gluing them to the backside of the paper plate so it looks more seamless.
Alternatively, if you don't have any popsicle sticks on hand, you can create your antlers out of construction paper or pipe cleaners instead.
Step 3: Create the Reindeer's Face
Glue a pair of googly eyes towards the top of the plate. If you don't have googly eyes, you can create eyes out of construction paper.
Use a big red pom pom for the nose to create your very own Rudolph. Construction paper can also be used for this part if you don't have any pom poms. You can use brown or black pom poms to create Santa's other reindeer.
Draw a happy smile for your reindeer using markers.
Step 4: Personalize the Reindeer
Add extra decorations to personalize your reindeer. Decorate the antlers with glitter, create rosy cheeks out of construction paper, or add more pom poms around the neck to give your reindeer a fuzzy appearance. Get creative and really make the reindeer your own.
Ways to Make It Unique
There are so many fun and exciting ways you can make your paper plate Reindeer even more unique and festive. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Add Fun Textures: Use additional pom poms or yarn to give your reindeer some added texture.
Hanging Decoration: Punch a hole at the top of the plate and attach a ribbon to turn the reindeer into a hanging ornament.
Create all of Santa's Reindeer: You can make all 9 of Santa's reindeer and make each one unique. This is an excellent way to allow your children to further connect with Rudolph's story and make it more engaging for them.
