Optional small pom poms (as the ornaments)
Optional Pipe cleaners (for decorations)
Optional String or ribbon (for hanging as an ornament)
Step by Step Tutorial on How to make a Popsicle Stick Christmas Tree
Step 1: Color the Popsicle Sticks
We used colored popsicle sticks for this craft, so we didn't have to color them ourselves. However, if you only have access to plain popsicle sticks, we recommend using a green marker to color them green or whatever color you want your tree to be. You can also color another popsicle stick brown for the tree trunk.
To make one tree, you will need at least three green popsicle sticks to make the tree shape and a fourth of another popsicle stick to make the tree trunk.
Step 2: Assemble the Tree Shape
Glue the three green popsicle sticks into a triangle shape to form the outline of the tree. If you are using Elmer's glue, give your tree plenty of time to dry before moving on to the next step.
Take your brown popsicle stick and break it into fourths. If you have any young children, please do this part for them so they don't potentially hurt themselves trying to break the popsicle stick.
Attach the broken popsicle stick to the bottom of your tree as the tree trunk.
Step 3: Decorate the Tree
Now, for the fun part, decorate your tree however you'd like. You can use pom poms as small ornaments, wrap pipe cleaners or ribbon around your tree, or use markers to add additional decorations.
Don't forget to add a glittery pom pom or a star sticker to the top of your tree to finish it off.
Step 4: Optional Hanging Loop
If you'd like to turn your tree into an ornament, tie a loop of string or ribbon around the top of your tree.
Ways to Customize Your Christmas Tree
There are so many fun ways to customize your Christmas tree, making it even more exciting and unique. Here are a few additional ideas to get you started.
Glitter & Sequins: Add some sparkle by decorating the tree with glitter or sequins.
Beads & Buttons: Use small beads or buttons instead of pom poms for a more unique look.
Different Sizes: Experiment with mini popsicle sticks or jumbo sticks to create trees of different sizes.
Background Scenes: Attach your tree to a piece of construction paper and create a winter scene with snowflakes, gifts, or a starry night.
