Step by Step Tutorial on How to make a Paper Bag Penguin

Step 1: Create the Penguin's Face:

  • Start with a standard brown paper bag. This will serve as the body and base for your penguin puppet. Lay the bag flat, with the flap facing upward—this flap will become the penguin’s face.

  • Cut a circle from black construction paper for the penguin’s head. Attach it to the bag’s flap and make sure it covers the flap completely.

  • Add two googly eyes, placing them towards the top of the bag for the eyes, or draw eyes with markers.

  • Cut a small triangle from orange construction paper for the beak. Glue it below the eyes on the flap.

Step 2: Create the Penguin's Body

  • Cut a large oval from black construction paper to serve as the penguin's body. Glue it to the paper bag, covering the flat side of the bag but leaving the flap uncovered.

  • Cut a smaller oval from white construction paper to make the penguin's belly. Glue this over the black body centered on the bottom half of the bag.

Step 3: Create Wings and Feet

  • Cut two wing shapes from black construction paper and glue them to the sides of the bag.

  • For the feet, cut two small orange ovals or triangles and attach them to the bottom of the bag.

Make It Your Own

Want to make your penguin puppet even more unique? Here are a few ideas:

  • Holiday Theme: Add Christmas-themed decorations like a tiny Santa hat or a small paper candy cane for the penguin to hold.

  • Different Colors: Let your kids experiment with colors—maybe a purple penguin or one with a rainbow belly!

  • Add Fun Textures: Have your kids cover their puppet in white pom poms or cotton balls for a fun texture difference.

  • Interactive Puppets: Encourage your child to use their penguins as a puppet for a story or play.
